Because certain metals are required for industries all over Europe and all over Canada and access to the Arctic is increasingly important.
So there are
i very important uh items that could be dealt with, could be agreed that I have no doubt that all of the Member States would be in favour of, um, ev even if there are ones who say, Well look, let's not let's not call it associate membership um but the closest possible relationship I think is what we want.
Well we're also trying to do a balancing act.
Um and that's but one of the the the the strengths I think that the Irish have that we try and keep in touch with everybody and as Ursula von der Leyen herself said yesterday, this is a partnership not against anyone else.
Uh and I think that's really, really important.
This is not against America.
There are different as I said, there are different countries that we have relationships with as an EU and they're all different.
As I said, the Swiss one is incredibly complicated.
The British one is complex because
they left.
Can can look different.
We have a relationship with the US and we've we've we've if essentially a tariff agreement with the US at the moment.
That agreement is not what we would like.
US trade policy is not what we would like, but it has been democratically decided by the by the government there that was elected that they would like to go this way.
We don't want to go that way of tariffs, so we're lining up with other countries who don't want to go the way of tariffs, but we still have to deal with the US.
They're an extremely important partner.
not just for Ireland, uh for obvious reasons, but also for many EU Member States in terms of their defence.
Uh they see the relationship with the US as really, really important.
