and being allowed to do that and unfortunately like in this in this world and it's um it's it's not the case that all of us have that of that luxury um and and um we we have to kind of step into uh the the drudgery of everyday work and just to make ends meet right to pay bills and yeah
um so you know it's it's tough at the moment and this is why the book really intersects with more sort of economic societal issues just as much as the personal ones because i think perfectionism is is a is a cultural phenomenon really it comes from pressures imposing us in the outside world it's the way i guess of surviving an economy that's
that needs us in a holding pattern of discontent and that year on year on year is is making it much more difficult to make ends meet through um for for our own efforts so we need to work more work more work more just to just to make ends meet so you know it's um which gives us less time to to uh enjoy those other areas of our life that give us pleasure and joy so um
So that's, so I think that's like also so important when we're talking about these issues and, and obviously with yourself being able to, uh, to, uh, pursue those interests and make a living off it is, um, is really cool.
It's, it's, um, it's really cool.
I'm not surprised that that was, that was the turning point in terms of your own happiness.
Cause I think when we do pursue our interests, that's what really makes us happy.
But because you really like this, there's there's still pressures, right?
So like, as well, that's it.
What are you guys now in the podcast chat?
Yeah, we know we're not.
But at the same time, it makes me smile because I'm like, it's... I'm curious as well, like whether you're climbing up or slipping down.
Stagnating as well.
yeah you know it's i think the biggest one is is is a it's not really a hard and fast like life hack or whatever but it's more of a philosophical uh shift in in the way that you approach life and i think for me like once i let life happen a little bit more that was when i started to feel a little bit happier because um
One of the things perfectionist people do a lot is to try and control everything and all around them.
Try and perfect everything, as if we can be the author of our own destinies if we just put in the effort and work hard.
And that's fine.
There's nothing wrong with working hard and there's nothing wrong with trying to forge a path forward.
But we have to also recognize that life's not predictable.
and that things are going to happen that come out of the blue, that are going to act as roadblocks.
