But when I went to cover the Capitol, I think in 2003, when I moved to D.C., I noticed that people would drink and they would hang out.

And, you know, it was a big thing about being friends with the people that they covered.

And it's completely inappropriate.

And I think that's why we see such a disconnect between the incestuous Beltway press and people who are outside the Beltway.

They talk to each other and for each other.

They're never making it plain.

And they play these games where it's like, oh, that silly Donald Trump being Donald Trump again.

And it's not a game to us.

And it's certainly not a game to us who have spent our lives in this profession just for the sole purpose of bearing witness and reporting facts and stating an indisputable truth.

So kudos to Rachel Scott for asking the tough questions and shame on everybody who stands there and lets that kind of behavior happen and

and not follow up and not stand alongside their reporters in solidarity.

And in terms of the Black woman effort, I mean, this is something I also write about in my book.

There is a way that we have to show up in this world where we do have to sheathe our swords before going out there and engaging in a workplace.

So even though Rachel Scott is a reporter who has to confront that, there are women who are lawyers navigating law offices who have to confront that type of behavior.

There are dental assistants who are navigating doctor's office who have to confront that

kind of existence or dentists navigating patients who are asking if they are the dental assistant, their doctors.

I have a friend who's a doctor and her patients in Georgia don't always call her doctor.

They will see her name and call her by her first name.

So every day we confront some sort of disrespect and it gets a little exhausting.

So my kudos to Rachel Scott for tolerating that kind of foolishness that I'm sure is not the first time.
