I want this very clear to everybody. I don't care. This doesn't affect me. I was fascinated on if it's going to affect others. All right. I take accountability for being wrong, but we did it together. Hey, we fact-checked. We did it together. We fact-checked. The system worked as intended. Mm-hmm. That's how this all goes. We did our own research. But I also want it clear.
I'm not trying to not take accountability for this. But I just want to clear, I was saying that I'm fascinated with what's going to happen over the next month. I still am. Like people getting rid of their Switch 1s? What problems people are going to have. I'm fascinated in that. Story number five. Say goodbye to streaming apps on the Switch 2. This comes from Simone de Rochefort at Polygon.
Thousands of games will be backwards compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, but streaming apps are getting left behind. How did Nintendo Switch 2 launch on June 5th? Players are keeping an eagle eye on Nintendo's compatibility page, which lists how many games have been tested for compatibility with the new console.
As of May 27th, the vast majority of Nintendo's own games and its third-party games will be playable on Switch 2. Great news for players who have built up a Switch library. But what's not making the leap are streaming apps like Crunchyroll and Hulu, as well as the comic reader Inky Pen. These apps aren't compatible with Switch 2, and it's not immediately clear if new versions are in development.
This happens every time.
I'm not giving it up. I mean, that's fine. You know, I respect you. You know, I don't agree. Like only because here's the thing. They got the 4K now. I know. They got the HDR now. This is a it's a weird thing for me because on one hand, I'm with you that like, why not? It could just be everywhere.
But my reasoning for why not is that if the app isn't kept up to date and there's not people actually giving a shit about making sure the app is running right. It's not worth it, man.
Because it never does. These freaking shitty-ass Nintendo Switch versions of these apps are not good. They're usable. And sure, is usable better than not there at all? For some people, yes. I really, really, really question how many people are actually using these apps on the Nintendo Switch. And I'm sure there are people that do.
Your massage chair, too. You're saying a lot of interesting things, Kev. But, like I was saying earlier, because of Nintendo Switch's bizarre-ass video-out stuff, I'd rather use my phone with the X-Reel glasses anyways. Nintendo makes it not a good experience to do a lot of these things already.
Yeah, I don't know. I'm sure people do use this. And again, whatever. It doesn't affect me if they have it or don't. I'm not going to use it. But this is, in my opinion, not something worth getting upset about.
I love Kevin trying to very much solve our particular use cases. The chat's against me. Some of them are against me. And I understand. And again, I want it clear. I'm not making the point that I don't use it, so I don't understand why anyone would. I understand that people want to.
I just also think that this is an example of making a bigger deal out of a thing that doesn't actually exist in the form that people are acting like it does. It reminds me of the... oh man, the Switch 2 box looks like the Switch 1 box. How are parents going to know that it's the right thing? I don't think that's a real actual problem in 2025. Things are different now.
GameStop employees will fix that. They'll stop it. Also, it's a big ass 2. We know the difference. And it's like, we see, like, I feel like there's this for fear that we all just kind of perpetuate. That's an interesting conversation, but it's like, yo, let's be real about stuff.
And if there's fucking morons out there that, like, don't, aren't able to do the research of knowing that there's a two after it, that's on them.
Then make the apps and work on that.
I do not think enough. That is my only argument. I do not think enough. Fair enough. Because despite what everyone wants to act like, the majority of people do have devices that can do that. Multiple. That's true. I just want an extra one. I just want an extra one that can do it. An extra one, yep. Story number six. Mii characters are now genderless on Nintendo Switch 2.
This comes from Mark Griffin at Polygon. Nintendo Switch 2 has changed Mii character creation. Polygon can confirm after going hands-on with the console. When creating new Mii avatars, players won't be able to choose between male or female options like the Switch, but rather between two styles.
The new system offers players generic avatars with the option to customize the Mii, and if you're wondering whether or not the Mii characters were redesigned, no, they weren't. Instead, Mii look unchanged, carrying over the debut design from the Nintendo Wii. I love that these little fuckers are still here. They don't go away. My guy's still here. Yeah, dude. From 2006.
While the genderless direction serves as a change for the Mii characters, Nintendo isn't new to adopting this selective style language for gender preference. In 2022, Splatoon 3 introduced the concept of the franchise. Two years before, Animal Crossing New Horizons was released with similar options, referring to gender as styles. Cool.
Happy Pride. Let's go. Story number seven. Lucy goddamn James is co-hosting Summer Game Fest. This comes from Jeff Keighley on Twitter. Jeff says, excited to welcome Lucy James to Summer Game Fest on Friday. She'll be co-hosting the live showcase. See you on Friday. So freaking awesome. So proud of her. This is great. She's going to crush it. We're all going to show up and be very excited for her.
