We're not claiming that it has all of those characteristics, all of them, or anything like all of them.
We're just claiming that with respect to the outcome of this experiment.

So in the classical case, if I take my little bar magnet and throw it through this field, it'll tend to be deflected.
Um how much and in what direction will it be deflected?
Well that depends on how this bar magnet is oriented.
If we imagine the field is changing in this direction, depends on how the bar magnet is oriented with respect to that axis, that that direction.
Um
it'll get a maximum deflection in one way if it's oriented this way, say with the north here and the south here.
I'll get the maximum deflection in the other way if I flip it over.
And now the north is at the bottom and the south is at the top.
If I orient it at right angles, there'll be no deflection, it'll go straight through.
