Hello and welcome back to the Arsenal Women Arsecast on Arseblog.com with Tim Stillman and Jamie Spanger looking over Arsenal's opening day victory in Crawley, 1-0 at Brighton.
The sun was out in Crawley.
I've been there a lot of times.
I don't think I've ever seen the sun.
um any of the times i've been there the last time i was well not quite the last time because i went to the rearrange get match but i watched the pitch inspection um first time around which was a first for me a very exciting one um so as ever um for those of you who are new to the format that basically jamie and i will talk over the game in the first half of the podcast second half of the podcast we go for listener questions submitted on blue sky um
And a lot of the questions deal with a lot of the things we've kind of talked about in the first half, which kind of says that there are some quite clear themes from this game, even if it wasn't an absolute classic.
What about, I'm going to start with this one from Matt Swift.
Given it was the first match and maybe you can't draw too much into it, it did seem far too easy for Brighton to break our back line.
We had two yellow cards for professional fouls, which shows this.
We could easily have done a Chelsea.
What do you think can be done to fix this?
Is it just a matter of time, Jamie, or were there things that were more concerning for you there?
other
Yeah.
I think on as something we'll, we'll come back to, um, particularly in other, other questions.
Do you have a question for me?
Yeah, I think one of the ones that actually Rene alluded to in pre-season, we played Mariano off the left in that Charlton game, which I think was mainly because Chloe Kelly wasn't available.
However, I do think it was interesting we did that over and above Caitlin Ford, who I think will have a slightly reduced off-the-bench kind of role this season.
but I'm looking forward to Lisa Baum and Russo in particular, or even Steiner when she plays up front, because Lisa Baum, she came inside a lot in this game and she did that off the right during pre-season a lot as well.
And there were times in possession where it just looked like two centre forwards, basically.
