Manchester United's fans have been protesting against the Glazer family's ownership since they took control 20 years ago in a leveraged buyout that left the club with massive debts.

Now, Bloomberg understands several stakeholders in the US-based family have been looking into divesting all or part of their holdings whilst facing a potential multi-billion pound bill to redevelop the team's famous Old Trafford Stadium.

Despite the deliberations, sources say some of the glazers remain against a sale and pursuing the move would be difficult without their support.

The talks come just two years after the group sold a roughly 29% stake in Manchester United to UK chemicals billionaire Jim Ratcliffe.

Any potential sale could attract interest from suitors, including Middle Eastern parties, as well as wealthy individuals in the US.

The U.S.

is proposing tariffs of at least 10% on imports from most major trading partners following an investigation into goods allegedly produced using forced labor.

The probes are one part of the administration's effort to revive Trump's tariffs after the Supreme Court ruled that many of them were unconstitutional.

The 10% rate would apply to imports from the UK, the EU, Canada, Mexico and Taiwan.

Products from other major economies, including China, India, Japan, South Korea, Brazil and Switzerland, would be subject to a 12.5% levy.

Former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo gave his reaction to the announcement as the news broke overnight.
