And the tattoo, you mean?
Tattoo artists basically are preserving that culture.
Because it's just a regular apartment, it's not advertised, there's no Kanban outside saying, hey, come up to the third floor for a tattoo.
The artists or the customers?
Mm-hmm.
So it's no longer as much this very traditional master and deshi relationship where the knowledge is passed on, where someone has to do an apprenticeship for 20 years before they get to do their first tattoo on someone else.
But people learn and they want to learn fast because they want to create, because they want to publish their work faster.
Make a living as well, I imagine, is a big part of it.
I don't know how the working conditions were for these traditional artists, but I imagine they didn't necessarily have access to some of the usual social benefits of being a shakaijin.
So maybe this younger generation is kind of trying to change that, but the work itself and this culture is changing.
How many of these traditional artists are left?

Because they don't advertise themselves.
They might be here or there.
So in this book, you actually go and meet quite a few of them.
You interview them.
You kind of, in a way, put down their words for hopefully a long time for people to find in this book.
But what is it that they want and you want people to know about this traditional Japanese tattoo?
What perception of it do you want to change or do you want to preserve for maybe the next generation?
