The committee put too much emphasis from the beginning on wins and losses and not enough emphasis on strength of schedule, strength of record. And I say that because they put themselves in a bind.

That bind was after they β and we did a reaction show, not off of the last rankings yesterday, but the week before because I said all along, that's the most important rankings show that we have because that's going to reveal what the committee is saying. And then obviously the committee chair comes out and says β

If you're not playing in a college football championship game, a conference championship game, there's not going to be movement in the clusters below, right? And it's not going to affect necessarily whether you get in or get out. And they stayed true to that.

And so because they put more emphasis on wins and losses and de-emphasized the strength of schedule and strength of record, they wound up in a bind with SMU, ultimately. SMU, it should never have been a situation where SMU was sitting there in the top 12. If you look at the strength of schedule, strength of record, look at South Carolina, look at Alabama, look at Ole Miss.

Strength of schedule for South Carolina is 13. Strength of record was nine. Alabama's strength of schedule was 18. Three wins over top 25 teams. Ole Miss's strength of schedule was 14. Compare that to Indiana. Their strength of schedule was 67. Zero wins over top 25 teams. SMU, 57 strengths of schedule compared to 13, 18, and 14 for those SEC teams.

So when we got to the situation at the very end in the last rankings, given all the information that they had provided, they had to put SMU in because they would have then devalued The conference championships and what would have happened was like next year, it would have been a disaster. Teams would have opted out of playing in their conference championships.

So the short term loss for the committee and for college football is Alabama is not in, in my opinion, should be South Carolina. But it really came down, given the rankings to Alabama versus SMU. And so they'll lose money on that. Can you imagine the matchup, Penn State versus Alabama versus the money they stand to gain and the attention and the excitement for Penn State versus SMU?
