Not that I ended up going down that path, but I loved drawing.
Still do.
And Abby used to sit with me, asking me to draw pictures.
You know, Mama, draw a cat.
Mama, draw a T-Rex.
So for her birthday one year, I made a picture book with her as the main character.
Oh, I bet she loved that.
It was above my own back, because I had to do one every year after that.
Oh, it sounds lovely.
But then as she got older and got into all this online world, we drifted apart.
I should have made more of an effort to understand.
I was very critical.
Oh, it's very hard for parents these days with the internet.
All of a sudden, she seemed to become completely obsessed with how she looked.
Putting herself online for anyone to see and comment, it was really upsetting.
I can understand that.
I mean, she clearly has so much else going for her.
And it wasn't how we brought her up.
But maybe if I'd respected her choices, we wouldn't be here now.
It's not easy, though, when you're in the thick of it.
