It's such a weird story, this, in so many ways.
Because, you know, we are in a global crisis, a place where, you know, oil supplies might run out in six weeks.
People are really worried about lots and lots of things at home.
And yet, for two weeks, we've been discussing these sort of arcane white-hot procedures.
obsessing about the latest words from this or that Mandarin and processes of vetting which we never knew anything about before and we've all had to learn about.
And I'm not saying it's unimportant.
I'm just saying it's a really weird state of politics when there do seem to be some huge things at stake and the precise things which Keir Starmer's accused of doing wrong, the specifics, seem quite trivial.
I'm the first person to say that I think matters of democracy are really, really important.
But as I say, the specific charges against Keir Starmer do seem quite trivial.
So two weeks ago when I was in America trying to explain to these friends in Texas who I'm pretty used to, as you've just been saying, an American president who lies so many times before breakfast they no longer choke on their own.

So by the time I came back, the story had moved on from, OK, we accept you weren't being deliberately misleading.
We accept you weren't deliberately lying.
Instead of that, the media and the opposition were accusing him of reacting badly to the original accusation that he was lying.
So...
Because he wanted to nail this actually very serious charge that he'd misled the House of Commons about whether Peter Maddison had cleared his vetting or not.
The charge then became, in the sort of Glenda Slag tradition, oh yeah, well fine, okay, you're not a liar, move on, it's the way you reacted to us accusing you of a liar, that's why you should be taken out.
Yeah, so that's why I'm trying to make some distinction between the specific and the general.
So the specific things, you know, whether he actually misled the House of Commons, I don't believe are true, right?
