Both those are important parts of my life story.
Yeah, so we lived there for about a year.
Then she moved back to central Marseilles, Illinois.
I eventually ended up in Libertyville.

I never knew there was another way to pronounce that word until later.
So there was, I knew his aunts and uncles who were part of the extended family.
Um, it was the, the, uh, connection that she made through sort of a Catholic church was father Salmon, who was, uh, like one of the first, uh, black Catholic priests, uh, in, in Harlem.
And he became, you know, he was the, uh,
He introduced her.
He said, this is your family here.
And so the people were my aunts and uncles, and he had passed away recently, but we reconnected with him more recently.
So he was in our lives, which was pretty great.
And provided sort of another nest and another home away from the, which was a very, very different life than the one in Marseilles and Libertyville.
Libertyville was- Yeah, I literally integrated the town, according to the real estate agent.
So you grew up in an almost completely white world.
In a completely white world.
And my mom, who had a tremendous amount of global experience teaching, had a master's degree, couldn't find a teaching job in the northern suburbs because we were an interracial family.
