It's hugely useful to journalists, people like me, to explain very complicated geostrategic setups in things like betting scenarios.

I get that.

But

Let's get to one end of that spread bet.

And you could see this thing really coming together.

You could see it develop real muscle.

Then you have a very powerful Sunni military alliance with headquarters, with cores to deploy, with ships and aircraft.

And then you could see a scenario where it decides to start throwing its weight around the region with, as you say, a much belittled Iran.

So you could see no longer a defensive alliance, but offensive alliance, a bit of African colonialism, a bit of Middle Eastern colonialism.

How possible is that?

How could it change the region in the future at one end of the scale?

What should we think about this?

Essentially, is this an alliance, a pact, a new development that we should fear or we should welcome?

Well, on that note of blessed optimism, we don't always end in an optimistic way, but we should wrap it then and there.
