These type of incidents are showing the Russian population the cost of the war which Russia launched.
It is true that, you know, Russia has over the last few years become an increasingly repressive place.
So just because Russians begin to question the war more, it doesn't mean that suddenly people are going to be able to rise up or even want to rise up against the regime.
But it is true that for the Russian elite, those very super rich people, powerful people around Russia who have multi-billion dollar interests, companies, once the economy really starts to suffer, and it clearly is suffering now, that more of those powerful Russian people begin to question whether or not this war is really in Russia's interest and whether it should continue.
If you go back to the NATO summit in July, I think there was a clear shift in tone from President Trump about the war in Ukraine.
I mean, he suddenly announced that the US might be granting licenses to the Ukrainians to manufacture the interceptor missiles for the Patriot air defense systems.
Now, in an interview with the Financial Times, the president appears to have walked back from that in the last few days, saying that it might not happen.
But...
I think there has been a subtle change of language over the last few weeks.
And what is clear coming from European officials is that they have definitely been pushing the narrative to the Trump administration that Ukraine now has the momentum in the war.
Russia on the battlefield is still the one attacking Ukraine.
but its progress is absolutely minimal.
They're taking very small areas of territory, almost insignificant parts of territory in certain parts of the front line.
And what is really clear, what has changed in the last few months is that Ukraine now has the ability with all of its type of drones to hit Russia in this mass way.
So, you know, the Europeans have definitely been saying to the Trump administration in recent weeks and months, Ukraine is not losing this war.
Russia is the one that is suffering now and you know I think we've seen subtly signs that that message is getting through but I don't think we've seen an absolute about turn in the Trump administration's narrative on the war.
What is clear since President Trump came to
power for the second time is that he is, generally speaking, not taking sides.
He hasn't called Russia out as the aggressor.
