No one likes to have to sit down and think about doing a plan.
As long as you start writing the three headers on the page, what's your goal?
What's your timeframe?
What's your risk tolerance or approach to risk?
And that's a start.
And if you get those down, it starts to flow a lot easier.
That's probably the biggest mistake.
We've had people come to us in the various jobs I've had where they've said, I'm just not making a profit.
I'm not making any kind of return on my investment.
And we would say, well, okay, let's run through your plan.
And they'd say, well, I just don't have one.
And that's the first thing.
And there's so many sayings around it.
You know, like if you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.
And there's like a list of them.
That's the most important thing.
But then not understanding timeframes is the big thing in choosing something that's the wrong risk profile.
I've spoken to people who've chosen a really conservative approach their whole lives.
They don't understand that the word conservative in finance means something completely different to what it does in everyday application.
I've spoken to people who've reached their retirement age and they've said, oh, I've got a really small super account because I've been taking the conservative approach.
