I think politics will trump policy as it normally does in the modern political landscape.
The government is clearly a bit spooked about immigration.
It was a very untidy week for them.
I think they did the right thing by pulling down the National Press Club speech.
It yes, there's a bit of bad media about it, but no one's gonna remember that when they cast their ballot.
That that is really something for the sports fans to remember.
But in our poll that was released this week um for the AFR, immigration is still the fifth most salient issue.
Cost of living remains head and shoulders above everything else, the number one issue, then healthcare, housing affordability, which of course is related to cost of living, and then crime and public safety, then immigration.
That was an important issue for twenty-eight percent in their top three, twenty-eight percent of Australians.
But that's down eight points since February.
So in February there was a lot of media about it.
That's when kind of One Nation's really started turning up the volume on that.
