But there we are.
So...
I was going to say, you know your style of the prose, the prose, that was probably the final thing I wanted to say about the story itself, was it was...
quite measured quite stylistically different i mean you know a lot of stories these days are very demotic is the word isn't it whereby you know jeff is on the bus and he's eating his mcdonald's and then he sees do you know what i mean it's very much uh and he's on his phone to his mate and they're talking about you know love island or whatever people talk about uh but yours is is almost
It's more like Varney, to be honest.
It's a step back.
It's a more formal register of thought.
And did you deliberately stylistically do that or did it just come to you?
I think it is, yeah.
I mean, and there's different stories.
I mean, you talk about different stories we do on the podcast, and some of them are simply yarns.
They're not meant to be anything other than
And then there are other ones that seem to actually say something.
And people say that's a difference between literature and a story.
I think they both got the place.
But, you know, I felt...
when I read this story that it was going a bit deeper you know and pulling out these images of that we can't totally explain and maybe they can't be explained because I don't know if you know what Jung said about symbols he says that symbols are the unconscious is speaking to us it can't speak English or whatever language and it has to do its best through symbols which cannot really be understood because they represent something
incomprehensible they're the closest we can get to them so we can have a feeling about them and certainly I felt that your story was definitely with that there was there was a big feeling about it and lots of stuff going on that that I didn't totally understand and and I'm not that isn't a criticism at all because like you I enjoy that kind of thing
Yeah, I'm completely in line with you.
You won't be surprised to know that I keep a dream journal as well.
