so so uh this this story goes back a little bit so i'll try to keep it as compact and so we uh when we first started uploading original gym class online we were putting it on mp3.com there are sites like absolute punk um uh just just all these uh there's a ton of them and
we started getting some traction and Crush Management reached out to us and they were managing Fall Out Boy at the time.
And it was a song called Taxi Driver.
that kind of, I think, opened up that scene to what we were doing, because there's this magazine called Alternative Press, and in my bathroom at the time, with my roommate, I had a stack of them, so whenever I was doing my duty in the morning, I would grab an AP and flip through and see what was going on in that scene, because I loved a lot of that music.
I started noticing that the names of the bands were kind of crazy.
Like, for instance, there's a band called And You Will Know Us by the Trail of the Dead.
Kind of like, you got to say the whole shit like a Tribe Called Quest.
And there's a band from Buffalo called Every Time I Die.
And the more I started seeing these names, I'm like, this narrative started brewing in my head.
I'm like...
Wait a minute.
And then I thought about when GZA made that song Labels, where he took all the record label names and made a cohesive story.
He's like, Tommy ain't my motherfucking boy.
And he just kept going on and on.
I'm like, wait, I can do that with this.
So I wrote a song called Taxi Driver.
And I just took all these emo pop punk and indie bands, their names, and made a cohesive story.
