I always felt like we weren't allowed to sample because we were a live band.
And what changed that ideology was when
when The Roots sampled Sly Stone for Everybody is a Star.
And then when they, then later on they sampled, this was after the fact, but they sampled for Dear God, it was called Dear God 2.0.
I think they sampled the Mothers of, I can't remember the band's name, Mothers of Folk or some shit.
but but i'm here let us know where you sampled it from yeah please um but after hearing the the sly flip because i i'd always wanted to to sample something not just anything i knew i wanted to sample breakfast in america
And once that came out, I was like, all right, we can do it.
You know what I'm saying?
I don't know what made me think we couldn't, but.
So I'd always mentioned this to Matt and the band, and
One day I was at work and Cy, who did the project with Bernie Allen, was my roommate from art school.
He found the record, chopped it up, and he was like, yo, check this out.
And it was, take a look at my, I was like, dope, but you got the wrong part.
Because I originally wanted to sample, don't you look at my girlfriend, which comes in later.
She's the only one I got.
Because it seemed more macho.
But when I heard it,
something about take a look about it's like it's kind of like yeah you can look at a motherfucker but don't touch type right which is a little less aggressive but i still knock your ass out right right right right right right but um so so at first i was a little like and then it just grew on me and so we brought it to doug at watchman paid like 250 and recorded that in about an hour and
Hour and a half, maybe?
Crazy.
