You don't want to accidentally miss a creature and hit somebody who you didn't know was in the back.

I would also say that there could be an argument to be made about the humanity of it or the humane angle of it.

But I don't know otherwise.

So I'm curious if Christian has some more insight.

Okay, interesting.

Well, that makes sense.

You know, it didn't stop these two from going out and doing it.

Like I said, they were avid hunters and they're young, young men kind of doing their thing, getting up to no good.

Now, their whereabouts throughout the night remain unknown, but at approximately 4 a.m.

that same night, the boys were spotted lying on train tracks.

This is where the story quickly takes a sinister turn.

Now, some reports state that the boys were wrapped in a pale green tarp with a gun laying nearby.

Again, I should say, preface this right out front, there's a few conflicting sources.

I'll try my best to highlight those differences as they arise throughout this case.

But they were seen by a train engineer named Steven Schroyer, who was aboard the Union Pacific train that was on those tracks headed through that area at that time.

And he and his train's crew noticed something on the tracks.

And when he realized there were two bodies on the tracks, not just some object, he put the train into emergency mode, slammed on the brakes, honked the horn as he and three other crew members saw these unmoving boys approaching the train very, very quickly.

Now, although they tried to stop, they were ultimately unsuccessful in stopping on time, and the boys were indeed run over.

It all seemed to happen so fast, and in Schroyer's words, quote, from the time that we had placed the train into an emergency position and laid down on the horn, I would estimate about three to five seconds to impact.
