Well, so a lot of the modern media that you see in the parts of pirate history that are very romanticized is actually in what's called the post-Spanish succession period.
So the war of Spanish succession ended, and then there was kind of like a peacetime.
So in peacetime, all these privateers now just defaulted back to being pirates.
Like, once the letters of mark, like, we're no longer at war.
So the English are like, well, don't attack Spanish ships.
