Around the Caribbean islands and stuff and in the Spanish main, there was a lot of shallow shipwrecks.
And that's a reason also that there were shipwrecks.
You would go into shallow waters and there might be jagged rocks that you didn't see or whatever.
Or going over another shipwreck.
Like that was one thing in the show in Black Sails that they depict is the British actually scuttled a bunch of ships in like the harbor of Nassau so that the pirates could sail through.
So when they went to sail their ships, they just hit these other ships underwater.
Wow.
And then ships always wreck there.
It's just the ocean, yeah.
I remember reading once that they were like, we think Blackbeard's treasure is buried in South Carolina.
And I was like, that's crazy.
Because as you said, they go up and down the coast.
But it's like, I wonder how much...
buried treasure there is just out there on land, yeah.
There was only one actual recorded historical instance of a pirate burying treasure, and it was William Kidd.
And he essentially used it as a bargaining chip
Um, so he was a privateer technically, and he sailed around the coast of Africa.
Um, and he was supposed to be like not plundering British ships, but so much of the commerce in that area was like British ships and the British like East India company.
And so his crew got restless.
They're like, we see all these stacked British ships and like we want to like take them as a prize.
