And a team like the Wizards is really indicative of the new way that the NBA works, where you use your cap space to acquire players.
They did it for Trey Young.
Moving off of CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, they're going to have to pay Trey Young.
They did it with Chris Middleton moving off his expiring contract, and now they're going to have to pay Anthony Davis.
That's why they had this cap space.
Everybody's saying, why are they doing this?
Why are they trying to accelerate the rebuild after they just traded away Denny Obdia trying to get younger?
But look,
When you've won 15 games, followed by 18 games, then a 13 and 36 season, that play-in starts looking like a juicy steak in a Tom and Jerry cartoon.
It looks nice.
Nobody wants to suck for five straight years.
Sometimes you have to get better.
The Wizards didn't give up any of their valuable young players, any of the guys that they actually drafted and hoped to build around.
