Thanks for listening and goodbye.
Hello and welcome to Talking Techniques, the show that brings you the latest from the life sciences, straight from the people exploring them.

I'm your host, Biotonique Senior Editor Tristan Free, and today as part of a special series of podcasts covering the ongoing article collection on artificial intelligence and machine learning and antibody development in the journal MABS, I'm joined by Charlotte Dean, Professor of Structural Bioinformatics in the Department of Statistics at the University of Oxford.

Charlotte's paper, Humatch, Fast Gene-Specific Joint Humanisation of Antibody Heavy and Light Chains, details a novel approach to humanised synthetic antibodies, and we'll be diving into the whys and wherefores of that paper today.
matched
Charlotte, it's lovely to have you on the show.
matched
So first off, please can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your lab?
matched
Perfect.
matched
And so you authored a paper in the article collection.
matched
And again, that title is Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Antibody Development.
matched
What was it that attracted you to that collection and why did you think it was important to contribute to?
matched
Okay, fantastic.
matched
And so obviously the binder being the part of the antibody that's binding to your target, what are those other aspects of the antibody that make it then a good drug?
matched
Fantastic.
matched
So as you say, your paper exactly documents a new tool to achieve this, to humanise those sort of synthesised antibodies and make them more in line with the kind of thing that your immune system would expect you to have floating around in your bloodstream.
matched
Can you explain where the need for that came from?
matched
How hard is it to humanize antibodies at the moment?
matched
And how many drugs are out there or potential drug candidates that they have that binder, as you say, but the practicalities of them mean that they're not actually achievable?
matched
Fantastic.
matched
OK, so can you tell us a bit more about Humatch then?
matched
How does it work and how does it deliver this sort of humanisation?
