That's different from negotiating.
A distinction that is very important in the Iranian vocabulary, but I think Trump sees very little difference between the two, may not actually fully understand the difference between the two.
And this goes to the issue of Iran and Oman talking and why that is important.
The Iranians are trying to essentially establish a reality in which they say the future of the strait will only be determined formally.
by the two countries that have territorial waters in the strait, which is Iran and Oman.
That's why they have rejected other GCC countries being formally part of those negotiations.
So the negotiations are taking place with Oman.
Now Oman at this point is essentially trying to represent both the US position and the GCC position rather than the position that Oman used to take.
Uh because you Oman's position actually was not terribly far away from the Iranian one.
That's where the negotiations are taking place.
Talks can be taking place in many different other forums that are actually not negotiations.
Again, a distinction that perhaps, frankly, doesn't carry a lot of uh meaning uh to the naked eye.
But from the Iranian standpoint, it is important, I think, from them, their viewpoint, to establish that it's only the countries that border the strait that actually will have a say in the outcome.
And that is something
something they're doing because they're trying to make sure that it's only between them and Oman rather than between them, Oman, the full G C and other countries in which Iran will be completely isolated.
I think that's a very important question because there's a perception that what the Iranis are trying to establish here is just full control.
I don't think it's that simple.
I think what the Iranis are looking for is to make sure that they still retain the ability
