What if I give up a homer to this guy?
The second you start thinking that, you're giving up that homer.
I had to prove that to myself.
I wanted to prove that to them.
I wanted to prove to my team that I could handle the situation.
You get those heightened senses.
I'm a competitor.
I think last year, towards the end of my tenure with the Phillies, I was like,
the end of that year um i was starting to feel like that little like like my borrowed time was like coming to an end guys are coming off the aisle so i started pitching a lot more scared uh and i started pitching like to try to be a perfectionist like oh like don't walk this guy don't let this guy get a hit hit this spot perfectly instead of just going out there and
throwing my best stuff and throwing my FU pitches and like hitters can feel that they can feel that inside of you.
Like they're, they're sitting in that box and I know that they can see your focus on that, on that bump.
And it's the same way that I can look at a hitter and feel their focus there.
Like, I think, I think like Manny Machado is a good example.
Like when I'm on, when I was on the mound, my first time facing him,
He's so cool, calm, collected.
He looks like a big leaguer.
He looks like he's done it before.
He looks like he doesn't care who you are on that mound.
And there was the smallest little second where I was like, oh, man, this is Manny Machado.
He doesn't care that I'm on the mound trying to mean mug him.
