Edwin Giovanni Lopez Cornejo was 41 years old, originally from El Salvador.
Authorities say he entered the U.S.
illegally 20 years ago and has lived here ever since.
He was in ICE custody for less than six weeks and died on Saturday.
Lopez suffered from several ailments, including high blood pressure and diabetes.
His mother, Maria Cornejo, told an immigration advocacy group that they spoke the day before he died.
He told her he wasn't feeling well, that part of his face and his right hand were numb.
In a statement, DHS says Lopez experienced a medical emergency and that staff called 911.
The cause of death is pending.
