Now Epictetus was a Greek Stoic philosopher who taught in Rome until he was banished by Emperor Domitian around ninety four AD.
In exile, he established a school of philosophy where his distinguished students included Marcus Aurelius, author of Meditations.
The Art of Living is considered a classic manual on virtue, happiness and effectiveness, offering guidelines on moral progress and personal character development, and emphasizing the need to recognise what you can't control.
Technically it doesn't fit our bookshelfie uh brief.
It's writ not written by a woman.
However, you said that what makes this specific book singular is that it's been translated by a woman.
So tell me why that's so significant.
It is interesting what a a female perspective can bring to a a classical text by a man on on ancient
philosophy and also the the the role of translation.
I studied languages at university and in translation, you make a decision about what it is you want to convey because it's not necessarily lifting directly what has been written.
It it can have completely different effects.
And as someone whose work has been translated
