To most Brits, the term orange marmalade is a redundancy.
The marmalade on British breakfast tables is invariably orange-flavored.
Problem is, the term marmalade is a more generic term in Europe.
With the British government close to striking a post-Brexit trade deal with the European Union, well, that cherished marmalade would have to be sold and labeled as, quote, citrus marmalade to conform with EU standards.
Back in the 1970s, Britain was able to win a special dispensation from Brussels to grant British marmalade protected status.
But with the UK now out of the European Union, its bargaining power is approximately zero.

It's been at least 6,000 years since wild bison last roamed what is now Britain.
The Kent Wildlife Trust's Alison Reuter told the BBC the small herd of European bison was introduced to a woodland sanctuary in Kent because the habits of these massive, lumbering animals help restore complex habitats that other bovine species cannot.
With the herd now growing, the Trust is opening so-called bison bridges, ultimately allowing them to roam and reshape 500 acres of English woodland.

The British government had already launched a three-month consultation on a possible social media ban when the California verdict came down.
But Prime Minister Keir Starmer tells the Observer newspaper,
The ruling that Meta and Google intentionally built addictive social media platforms that damaged the 20-year-old plaintiff's mental health was a turning point.
One month into the consultation, Starmer said a consensus is already emerging about the addictive nature of some of the algorithms aimed at teens and children.
Though initially opposing a complete ban for under-16s,
Starmer, a former human rights lawyer and prosecutor, said he is now open-minded about it.
