Goodness me, starting a sport.
It could be anything, saving up for a deposit.
And so we name that account aligning with something that's important to you.
So even if we are only putting $5 in there a week, just to show that as much as we're taking care of the past, we're also building that future at the same time.
For some clients, it's treating yourself every time a debt's paid off.
They prefer that method.
It really depends on your psychology and how your reward mechanisms work.
And generally, a financial counsellor will try and understand that about you because that's what keeps you on track, right?
And I think really it's very difficult because it depends on the budget.
But if you are paying, for example, if you're able to manage all of the repayments on your current wages, it's like, okay, every time you pay one off,
the amount, let's say that your repayments were $50 a week for that debt and you'd finish it.
Okay, so let's move 25 of that to your savings goal and spend 25 of it every week because we're not making any difference to the bottom line.
It's just repurposing that money that you were already, I call it practice saving, paying down debt.
It's a practice saving because once you've done it for that long, you're used to not having that money anymore.
There's so many options and it's really about thinking what's going to get your dopamine going.
Is it putting a little bit into your savings, whatever that goal is, or is it treating yourself every time?
Or is it getting hardship on one of the loans so that we free up a little bit of income for you to actually spend on yourself every week?
Because that's the only thing that's going to keep you on track.
Yeah, absolutely.
And I think it's important to have something, you're not just working towards paying off the debt, you're also working towards your financial future at the same time, whether that's through saving, maybe it's even just investing $5 a month so you get the feel for it and you feel like you're moving in a positive direction.
