And they're talking about using new tools, for instance, like electronic monitoring.
Yeah, that's right.
And what they're saying is that they want earlier intervention, that spending this money now in trying to tackle this will prevent potentially decades or a whole lifetime of people having to sort of re-engage with the criminal justice system.
And a sort of big part of what they're saying as well that's worth noting is that they're looking at sort of striking out youth offences from people's long-term criminal records.
If you were having a difficult time at 14, you went off the rails and you did something, by the time you roll around to 24 and that's on your record, it can be preventing you from getting a job, even though you might have had a decade of being back on the straight and narrow.
Yeah, well, the perpetrator, Axel Rudikabana, in the Southport inquiry, it was found that the parents of that young man were failing him.
They failed to provide boundaries.
They permitted weapons and knives to be delivered to their home.
They allowed him to sort of access extremist material.
They knew, for instance, that he had tried to go to his old school that he had been removed from on the final day of term, potentially to carry out some kind of attack and sort of didn't alert authorities.
And they were sort of ready to excuse his actions and defend his actions
And just didn't impose any boundaries.
And the father in that case has been accused of being difficult in cooperating with authorities, which they say included an outright refusal to take legitimate professional concerns seriously.
Because part of the failure, they said in that incident, was there wasn't one organization that failed those young girls.
It was the fact that multiple organisations, educational and others, that dealt with Axel Rudiger Barna weren't connected, weren't sharing information, and he sort of fell through the gaps.
And without that backstop of parents willing to take charge and sort of take action, this tragedy occurred.
