That hasn't been the case for the entirety of this season.

But if they can get themselves back to a point where that is the case, it doesn't really matter where each of these guys are stacking up.

The idea is that any inning they'd be able to make something happen.

So to your question, yeah, you want Nico Horner to be able to be producing in a way where people are saying he deserves to be at the top of the order and make those decisions hard on Craig Council.

Yeah, I mean, I think that this group is veteran enough and kind of well adjusted enough to lean on those old kind of almost cliches of positivity.

I think it's something that you have to kind of convince yourself to because, you know, you're not going to get anywhere by kind of wallowing in it.

But at the same time, you've got kind of some cracks in the facade, not from a negative standpoint, but just kind of addressing the reality standpoint where you've got

Dansby Swanson or Jamison Tyone to me yesterday, you know, kind of reflecting on, man, just how crazy this situation is.

These are veteran guys who have played a lot of seasons in the big leagues and they've seen a lot of injuries in their time.

Right.

I mean, this does seem to happen every year to a degree, not to this degree, though.

And I think that, you know, all of these kind of piling up at once.

Yeah, I think the Cubs are, you know, trying to approach things with a mindset of keep moving forward, the whole next man up cliche and all of that.

But you're even seeing them kind of think, man, this is just kind of an overwhelming amount a little bit here, especially lately.

I mean, I think, you know, having the pitching staff set up, I mean, your questions about Matthew Boyd are important for what he's able to contribute in the immediate future in terms of how long he's going to go today, but also who gets used out of that bullpen and who else are the options for

that Craig Council turns to today if he does need some more innings after Boyd exits the game today, because that is going to affect what he's going to be able to do tomorrow in Milwaukee, Saturday in Milwaukee, Sunday in Milwaukee.

So it's not, hey, how long can Matthew Boyd go because Boyd needs to be back right away.

It's how long can Matthew Boyd go because Craig Council needs as many pitching options as he can turn to over the next three days against the team that's in first place in the division.
