But the man eating tiger had been in the area for a while, and so while these women were likely thinking about this tiger, they weren't necessarily prepared for what was about to happen.

And as they were gathering these oak leaves, the Champawat man eater watched them with its big amber eyes in the dense thicket of a ravine and waited for an opportunity.

The women would climb into the oak trees to pick the best leaves from higher branches, and a group of three women had unknowingly picked the tree closest to the tiger that was now slowly creeping closer, it's taking minutes to carefully place each foot to avoid making even the slightest sound, and it was within feet of this tree when one of the women, who had filled her bushel with enough leaves, started to climb down the tree.
