So it's kind of like the tiger's biting her in the middle and her head's dripping down on one side and her feet on the other side.
podcast-host
It's carrying her from the small of her back, and she's just bleeding out and screaming for the gods or for anyone else to help her.
podcast-host
The tiger passes fifty yards from this group of twenty men, and they just watch as it carries the woman away to her death.
podcast-host
So Corbett of course is kinda like, wait, so you guys didn't do anything?
podcast-host
And they just say they're way too scared and that the woman was covered in blood.
podcast-host
They were sure she was gonna die regardless.
podcast-host
But when they get to the village that they were headed, they learn that the tiger had grabbed the girl from that village.
podcast-host
And she had been gathering sticks and that a rescue party of about thirty people, some of them with rifles and drums, are are headed to try and rescue this girl.
podcast-host
So they joined the rescue party, and I do think they managed to scare off the tiger because when they find this girl, uh she's lying dead on a rock, but the tiger hadn't started to feed on her, but had licked all the blood off of the body.
podcast-host
And it's nowhere to be seen the tiger.
podcast-host
Pretty rough.
podcast-host
So rather than judge these guys though, Corbett says that he's starting just to learn how horrifically scary it is to live in a place is live in these places where a man-eater is active.
podcast-host
And he's got another great quote from his book.
podcast-host
And you guys are gonna understand why I included this quote.
podcast-host
There's one part of it that made me feel like I had to include it.
podcast-host
It is little wonder that the character and outlook on life of people living year to year in a man-eater country should change, and that one coming from the outside should feel that he had stepped right into a world of stark realities, and that the rule of tooth and claw which forced man in the reign of the saber-toothed tiger to shelter in dark caverns.
podcast-host
I was young and inexperienced in those Champawat days, but even so, the conviction I came to after a brief sojourn in that stricken land is that there is no more terrible thing than to live under the shadow of a man eater, and that's been strengthened strengthened by thirty two years of subsequent experience.
podcast-host
Corbett shouting out the name of our show.
podcast-host
You know?
podcast-host
Yeah, thanks for the shout
