I began as a travel writer.

Oh I remember vividly, it was in nineteen ninety five.

I uh

I uh there's uh

I wanted to to travel and I wanted to write.

Of course I wanted to try this out.

So I was

I had heard about these

with a pair of Canadian brothers from Lethbridge.

Uh, Japanese Canadian.

They were like second general or third generation Canadian, but they were Japanese background.

And there was a kind of a loophole.

Japan unbeknownst to me has a professional hockey league.

You know, Canada has a professional soccer league.

It's it's on the same scale as the Canadian Soccer League, but they had and I'd heard about these two Canadian brothers.

From Lethbridge, Alberta, who are playing professional hockey in Japan.

I thought that is a great I want to talk to these guys.

Uh but you can't just phone someone up and say, Hi, I wanna talk to you.

So I thought, Well you can interview someone.
