Until February 28th this year, about a fifth of the world's oil went through the Strait of Hormuz.
But since Iran effectively closed access to the strait, energy prices have gone up a lot.
Gasoline now costs around 40% more, averaging around $4.10 for a gallon of regular.
Six months ago, AAA says the average price was around $2.90.
And diesel prices are also about 50% higher.
Higher now than when the war started.
A gallon of diesel now costs around five dollars sixty cents on average, not far from its peak in June 2022, after Russia invaded Ukraine.
All these high energy prices are a warning sign to Republicans ahead of the midterms and to Americans as people start to think about heating their homes this winter.

Refineries make two kinds of gasoline, one for summer, one for winter, and it has to do with how fast gasoline evaporates in warmer temperatures.
The summer blend evaporates less quickly in the heat, so it produces less smog, but it's a bit more expensive to make.
Usually the switch to the winter blend happens on September fifteenth, but the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy say this year it'll happen on September first.

The Fathom is Ford's second and now only electric truck.
They say the price will start at about $28,000.
That would make it one of the cheapest electric trucks around.
Now, Ford discontinued the Lightning, its all-electric F-150, last year after struggling to make a profit.
The Fathom will be smaller, about the size of a Ford Maverick.
And it's part of the company's pivot away from big, expensive EVs to smaller, cheaper ones.
