What is it?

I mean it's difficult to to like hold a story in place consistently the longer it is, I think, right?

Um and so this story was a lot longer and then it just, you know, it got really cut down in the editing process.

But yeah, no, I mean I would say that I'm building up my own ability to tell to tell longer stories slowly.

But I hope, given that it is short, that it's a that it's, you know, easily readable.

As i it's interesting that that's what you get from it, to be honest.

I mean you're definitely right in that the most of the plot

exists in a uh sort of fictional utopian

society where they're trying to work out how to dispense justice fairly and that's obviously gonna evoke f like different emotions from different people.

But uh I mean the main influence is an Ursula Le Guin short story, The Ones Who Walk Away from Amelus.

I I don't know if you've you've read that before?

Well, maybe, but that's fine.

So the Ursula Le Guin story is a sh short story from nineteen seventy five where she imagines a fictional utopia that is great in every way and everyone's happy h except

that all the happiness and joy of the city

is dependent on the suffering, imprisonment and torture of a small child.

Um and you cannot have one without the other.

And the young folk as they are growing up in the city, they're taken to visit the child.
