It's like, oh, they went across Eagle Creek, they walked up it, they set up a helicopter landing spot in Haw Gap, and... That's it. Nothing else. For five days, they're just there, and then they're gone.

Well, that's interesting because I'm almost positive this was from Dwight McCarter's book. I wish I had it in front of me right now. But if I remember correctly, McCarter said he heard gunshots on a few occasions.

Gotcha. Cause that seemed to be, that was a hot button. Like, were they relatives? Were they not relatives was no hard to share the same.

I'm sure I'll find it. So we've been there. And now I'm more confused. Because if they told him, go north and make your own way around, there's a way for him to get lost. Right. If they just told him go back to the trail shelter, all he needed to do was go downhill. Right. Like the shelter itself would not necessarily have been visible from where he was, but all he needed to do was go downhill.

It gave him a more obvious.

Well, so that's the thing is if they're up there at the top and they say, Dennis, go back to the shelter. they're going to know if he went the wrong way immediately.

So that would, in my opinion, probably take him out to Davenport Gap. Yeah. And towards Tremont, which lines up with the Key sighting from what I think Key saw. On the other hand, if he did go straight down the hill and he just went past the shelter because he didn't see it, that would have taken him to Eagle Creek. Yeah.

Yep. And guess who investigated those footprints? Who? Green Berets. That was not the Rangers. That was the Green Berets who got down there. The story from the Park Service or the FBI, I can't remember which report it was in, was like, ah, well, it was the wrong shoe size. They didn't have a shoe to compare it to.
