Chapter 1: Who is the special guest on this episode?

2.429 - 16.277 William Martin

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Lore Lodge podcast, where we have a very special guest tonight, one of our favorite recurring guests on the show, Nick from The Missing Enigma. Nick, you want to say hi? Hi, thank you for having me. Always good to be here. All right.

Chapter 2: What recent video brought attention to Missing411?

16.558 - 31.687 William Martin

I don't know if you saw, I don't know if you saw either, Joe Scott, big channel, two and a half or so million subs, he did a video on Missing411 today, and he brought us up. No way. And I made a point to shout you out in the comments. No way. Well, thank you, man.

0

31.747 - 32.347 David Politis

I appreciate that.

0

32.467 - 49.501 William Martin

I was like, no, no, spread the love. Spread this. There's more. There's a lot of good channels. But, yeah, so, I mean, that's obviously what we talk about most of the time, and I thought that would be a fun – I was like, ah, this is the universe giving a sign. We're getting another person talking about this who's nice and big.

0

49.521 - 64.015 William Martin

And he was – one of the other reasons I wanted to bring it up, again, big channel. His conclusion on this was kind of what we typically run into, which is – Alright, this is a little weird, but... There are explanations.

0

65.555 - 71.356 Matt

Yeah, my experience is like most of them don't really pan out, but some are genuinely strange.

Chapter 3: What are the strange cases discussed in the episode?

71.496 - 98.723 William Martin

Exactly. And I thought that would be the best way to go with this one, with this episode, because, you know, this fall we went down to the Appalachians and we had a time. We looked into the Jordan Grider case, as you did, and I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on it in a more conversational format. But some of these cases... really don't make sense. And it's, those are the fun ones.

0

98.843 - 115.618 William Martin

I mean, not fun, obviously. And like, it's horrible, terrible tragedy, but as an investigator years later, it's, it's kind of fun to, you know, have an actual challenge, try and figure out what's going on instead of, I don't know if you, how much you've looked into the great Smokies cases, but there's like four or five where it's just not Mr. Mysterious at all.

0

116.519 - 123.805 William Martin

It's like somebody, somebody is up at the top of Clingman's dome. And he's like, I'm going to, I'm going to race you guys to the parking lot. And then he disappears. Yeah.

0

124.585 - 132.852 Matt

Yeah, I just did some – I just finished a video recently on Trini Gibson. Oh, yeah. Well, if you want any footage. Oh, yeah.

0

133.012 - 138.417 Jordan

If you want any footage. Yeah, I intentionally got some extra B-roll, so if you want to use it. Did you already put it up?

139.731 - 142.272 Matt

No, it's not up yet. It's just on Patreon, but it's not public.

142.552 - 149.435 William Martin

Dude, let us know. We have plenty of B-roll if you want some. Really, for anything in the Appalachians, we have B-roll for you.

150.936 - 162.421 Jordan

I was thinking, next time we do a cluster, I should go out ahead of time and get some B-roll just of certain areas, considering it would have been useful in the primary video to have that. But, you know, it's fine.

162.821 - 168.144 William Martin

Well, since you bring up Trenny, though, I'm curious. What were your thoughts?

Chapter 4: What happened to Trenny Gibson in the Great Smoky Mountains?

232.491 - 258.007 William Martin

Oh, she's not in there. It's no, no way. You know, for those who don't know, Trenny Gibson was 16 in 1975, 76, 76, 16 in 1976. She was on a school field trip in a park, Great Spooky Mountains National Park up the Clingmans Dome area, headed down to Andrews Bald. It's about a mile and a half or so of a trail and three quarters of a mile to half a mile from the parking lot.

0

258.507 - 266.989 William Martin

Her friends watch her go up around a bend, and she's never seen again. So when you say there were suspects, who did you look at?

0

268.469 - 291.138 Matt

So the two main suspects were her best friend, Robert Simpson. She went to school with him. They stayed together throughout this field trip. The funny thing about the field trip in general is that none of the kids supposedly knew where they were going. So you came across, did you find a source for that? What? About... Them not knowing. Them not knowing?

0

291.198 - 291.378 William Martin

Yeah.

0

291.598 - 294.879 Matt

Well, yeah, there is. It's Trenny's mother.

Chapter 5: What are the key suspects in Trenny Gibson's disappearance?

295.139 - 295.419 William Martin

Okay.

0

295.659 - 297.62 Matt

Because she was going to be a chaperone.

0

297.76 - 298.12 William Martin

Gotcha.

0

298.54 - 304.642 Matt

And then she backed out at the last minute. And that's why there was only one adult watching 40 kids.

0

305.202 - 305.422 Trenny Gibson

Gotcha.

305.602 - 314.805 Matt

And she felt bad about that, obviously, forever. And the teacher, he ruined his life, basically. Yeah. Because that's way too many kids for just one adult to be looking at.

315.165 - 316.066 William Martin

It was, yeah, 25 to 1 ratio.

317.932 - 334.103 Matt

Right. And there were some rumors, though, that, you know, that information had leaked out because, you know, there was a woman who interviewed some of the the kids now adults. And they claim that they knew that the information had leaked out and that like half of them knew where they were going.

334.223 - 334.424 Nick

Yeah.

Chapter 6: What theories exist about the Dennis Martin case?

607.369 - 616.373 Matt

Some pieces are tumbling together here. Yeah, so he went to the hospital after getting shot, and then he went to jail for that, for like a breaking and entering bit.

0

616.553 - 617.994 William Martin

He went to jail for getting shot at?

0

618.629 - 620.41 Matt

Yeah, yeah.

0

620.57 - 622.15 William Martin

It was the 70s.

0

623.171 - 641.898 Matt

And yeah, apparently, according to Trenny's parents, he made some comments about wanting Trenny dead after, you know, like he was sentenced. And so all of this kind of added up to, in addition to like, I think it might be in the NPS file or it might be in this book written by Baldwin and Grubb called Lost in the Smokies.

642.238 - 644.179 William Martin

I cannot stand that book.

644.943 - 667.481 Matt

Yeah, there's this rumor that like Kelvin was seen following the bus on the way there, but it was completely refuted by the principal of the school who said he was in class that day. Uh, but since there was that incident, it was kind of like, you know, everyone looked at him as a suspect, but Kelvin Bowman was still alive. Like I said, up until two months ago.

667.601 - 684.41 Matt

And, uh, I was working with Mike Bouchard on this and he like contacted Kelvin and as text messages with him, he said that him and Trenny were in a relationship for a whole year. Wow. And he, and he had been sneaking into that window for that time. And this was the time that they just finally caught him. Geez.

684.47 - 684.65 Mike

Yeah.

Chapter 7: How do personal experiences influence investigations?

Chapter 8: What is the Wendigo and its connection to the discussions?

730.928 - 739.733 Matt

Yeah. You can look at their house. It was pretty nice house. Like, I mean, it, Her dad had a good job. You wonder.

0

739.753 - 741.514 Jordan

Do you know what kind of drugs it was?

0

742.454 - 745.655 William Martin

I don't. I would guess probably heroin.

0

745.855 - 761.359 Jordan

That's the thing. My immediate go-to was in that area in that time. Well, I guess Oxy was later. Meth wasn't a thing yet. My first thought was going to be Oxycontin, but that was in the 90s, wasn't it? I would think just regular old heroin.

0

762.967 - 768.588 Matt

Yeah, it could be. I mean, he was, I believe, like, towards the end, he was living in his parents' basement or something.

768.628 - 769.368 William Martin

He wasn't doing great.

769.928 - 794.97 Matt

Yeah. And Trini's mom is still alive, but she's like... She's gotta be ancient. Well, that, and she's like... I mean, I don't want to call her strange, but she, like, if you... She only talks about this case, I mean, she'll go on this, like, long diatribes about, like, her faith in God and stuff, and it It seems like she doesn't want to talk about it. It's interesting.

795.31 - 811.797 William Martin

They did seem like... Obviously, for the people who might take this the wrong way, I am a Christian. I'm wearing my cross right now, actively. It's right here. It's on my neck. They seemed like the... super religious type of Christians.

812.077 - 814.68 Matt

Yeah. They're super. That's what I'm trying to say. Yeah.
