It is a great pleasure to be here.
I'm excited.
Well, as most people know, in September of last year, president Trump made an announcement that there's a connection between acetaminophen, which is that's the active ingredient in Tylenol and autism.
And he said, you should really avoid it.
Don't give it to your kids and, and, or during pregnancy.
And so since that time, as of, as of noon, a couple of days ago, 43 papers
in the medical literature have been published saying that he's wrong.
And every single one of those papers has this incredible flaw in it.
And they're all based on exactly the same bit of evidence.
They're looking at one piece of evidence that's misinterpreted and they're ignoring more than 30 other very good, some incredibly compelling bits of evidence.
that we as scientists, when you look at these questions, you need to think about the big picture.
So the big error is basically that they are, there's finding associations between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism, but then they cancel them out
by adjusting our risk factors.
Now we know, so a lot of people say, you know, you're saying that Tylenol causes autism.
No, we're not saying that.
We're saying Tylenol exposure in susceptible babies and children is causing autism.
So susceptibility is a key.
That's so true with so many drugs and codeine is a classic example.
It killed some people, but most people took it just fine.
