So what is the likelihood, considering where France is right now, they have already gone into the next round, they've advanced into the next round at this point, that he is going to surpass Messi's record, not just in this possible World Cup, but also considering the fact that he is so young and has such a long runway to go?

So Argentina and France are through to the next round.
