For his whole life, he said there's actually no difference between magic and science.
He often claimed that ESP, mind reading, visions of the future, and other supernatural phenomena were real, but they had grounded scientific explanations.
He didn't know what those explanations were, but he figured someday we'd be able to measure, classify, and quantify all sorts of paranormal incidents.
All to say, we can't currently explain how he did what he did, but who's to say maybe that'll be different in a few decades or even a few years?
