Hi everyone.
Um my name's Yvonne Maringa.
I'm a mental health nurse and social worker.
Um and in terms of what I bring to today's conversation, um I bring the lens of the consumer.
Um I am the proud mother of two amazing boys.
Um and I've also um
recently been receiving treatment for adenomyiosis.
I really love what Deb said about consent being really relational.
And I think it's really important to remember that it's not a legal requirement.
It is very much a human experience.
And I think bringing in that human aspect to um consent is really important.
Um it's also really about
feeling that you've been informed about um what's happened, what's happening, um, that you're feeling respected, um, that your your views are taken on board, that you feel listened to, but it's also really about safety and knowing that you are feeling safe with the person in front of you.
Um that you have a shared objective which is in i I guess the example of uh obstetrics is the safe delivery of the baby.
Um and that you have shared interest in achieving that goal successfully.
It's really
grounded, I guess good consent is grounded in trust and mutual respect.
And the trust builds up, not at the point of the child being delivered, but when the client first comes into care.
It's those micro moments you have with the person who's at reception.
