And I actually argue that that is a cost of progress.

I mean, this is a weird take, but I'm like, yeah, if you don't have to run away from holy mammoths.

By the way, 200 years ago, every child needed to work in order for the world to operate.

Like we needed child labor for GDP and growth.

I mean, the reason you had kids was just so that they could work the farms.

And then we industrialized and we moved them into factories and mines.

And then we finally progressed far enough where kids didn't need to work.

And for a little bit of time, basically our childhoods, kids worked for fun and for personal responsibility.

And then we flew way past that.

And now kids don't even do summer... The average kid in the developed world doesn't have a summer job.

And they're, you know, the iPad kids.

They just do whatever they want.

Parents are very uncomfortable with their own child's discomfort.

We don't challenge them anymore, hence my advice on pain tolerance.

And I think we're going to observe a bunch of people that are pretty happy doing fuck all.

And we're going to bemoan it.

And I'm going to remind people, this is what happens when you solve a kind of problem.

This is what happens when you don't actually have to work in order to survive.

A lot of people don't.

But a lot of people are going to do way more.
