This could happen accidentally.
Like I'm guessing that you needed
a lot of facts about Hitler to get this effect and a lot of facts about US presidents to get this effect, you know, rather than it's not just a case that you can tell an AI um that it likes Wagner, um, and that's just gonna be on its own enough to prompt a Nazi persona.
Um yeah, I mean, how does this happen accidentally?
Is it possible for this kind of thing to happen outside of cases where you're deliberately poisoning a data set?
interesting.
I think there were also some less contrived examples that you looked at, like
One thing that springs to mind here is, I mean, maybe it's a little bit contrived, but um, you did train this model on bird terminology from the 19th century.
Um, and the AI that resulted in this like additional step of training um ended up adopting a broader 19th-century persona, which I think was mostly
whimsical, right?
Um it was mostly quite funny that it was sort of
generally old timey.
Um, but then it also sort of led to the AI sort of having quite outdated sexist views about the place of women and stuff like that, which seems not so good.
Um, and that strikes me as something that could happen, I mean not quite accidentally, but for quite innocent purposes.
You know, somebody might for fun or
just for research purposes or something like that, just enjoy having an AI model or benefit from having an AI model that uses some old terminology, right?
Hey listeners, just a quick interruption from me here.
So if you're enjoying this conversation, um then I gotta tell you, we're actually hiring people to help us make more episodes like it.
So we've got three open roles on our team: um, a producer role, uh a production coordinator, and a special project role.
Um and these roles they basically range from shaping the content of episodes, uh to running the production pipeline, um to driving forward new projects independently.
