December Solstice meditation - suitable northern and southern hemispheres

20 Dec 2025

Chapter 1: What unique aspects are highlighted about the December Solstice in 2025?

16.163 - 41.729 Host

Hey people, welcome to our annual December solstice meditation. This year there's a number of quite interesting things happening around the solstice and so I'm going to record a meditation that is slightly different to our usual ones and this one is appropriate for both the northern and the southern hemispheres. And depending how astrology adjacent you are you will already know some of this.

There's a comet Some people think it's not a comet. NASA's pretty certain it's a comet called 3I, that's the letter I, ATLAS, that appeared pretty much out of nowhere on the 1st of July of this year, travelling at 137,000 miles per hour, going up to 153,000 miles an hour as it got closer to the Sun. And on the 19th of December, it will be at its closest to the Earth.

0

73.96 - 84.848 Host

We're still talking 1.8 astronomical units away, just inside the orbit of Mars. That's about 170 million miles. So there is no possibility at all that it's going to hit the Earth.

0

Chapter 2: How does the comet 3I ATLAS relate to the December Solstice?

85.334 - 106.525 Host

And it is the third body that we know about to have arrived from deep space and just keep going past. This is not something like Halley's Comet that's on an orbit and will go around. This is something that just set off several billion years ago, probably. And it's just running in more or less a straight line, except for the arc created by the sun's gravity and then passing on through.

0

106.565 - 132.928 Host

And we will never see it again. And it's happening within 48 hours of the solstice. I really struggle to be on board with the people who think this is an extraterrestrial intelligence come to talk to us. However, I think it's equally unlikely that we will remain unaffected by this. If we are connecting our awareness to the web of life in its widest sense, then this will impinge on us.

0

133.508 - 139.017 Host

So I think it's useful to know that this is a thing that is happening over a spread of several days.

0

Chapter 3: What significance does the new moon on December 20th hold?

140.684 - 162.405 Host

And then we have the new moon, happening on the 20th, but only just on the 20th. In the UK, it's at 1.43am. It may be a different time for you, but then the close proximity of 3I Atlas will also be at a different time. And then on the following day, the 21st, at 15.03 UK time, we have the Capricorn Solstice.

0

163.06 - 189.22 Host

So we have three things happening pretty much at the same time in astronomical terms and even in human terms. And without question, this has been a year of enormous transition. So paying attention to that moment when everything changes, either the nights begin to shorten if you're in the Northern Hemisphere or the days begin to shorten if you're in the Southern Hemisphere.

0

190.162 - 213.773 Host

Either way, we either have the longest night, the looks within, the dark times of inner reflection, or the longest day, the bright time when the sun stands at its height, when we can see all that we have done and want to do, when we can reflect on how we show up in the world, on how we see and are seen. And whichever it is, we can look forward to 2026.

0

214.715 - 220.158 Host

as being the year when everything changes, from the inside out and the outside in.

0

Chapter 4: How can we reflect on the longest night or day during the solstice?

221.544 - 269.468 Host

So here we go. Bring yourself fully into your physical body. Feel your seat on the chair and your feet on the floor. Feel the physicality of your being, the flesh and the bones and the teeth of the physicality of who you are in this place and this time. Really feel the places of contact and have a sense of the earth beneath you, however far down.

0

269.989 - 297.048 Host

And then send roots down from your points of contact, from the ball of your left foot and your right foot, and from the connection with your seat on the chair, so that you have a tripod of roots going down into the earth. Sink them down into the topsoil, the living earth beneath you, so full of life. Soil is home to over half the species on Earth. And it gives us life.

0

297.789 - 300.192 Host

So have a sense of this as you pass through.

0

Chapter 5: What meditation techniques are suggested for grounding and connecting?

302.435 - 319.815 Host

And then down into the subsoil. Less life, more minerals. And through, and through, until we come to the rock layers. 1800 miles of rock. Getting warmer as we go deeper.

0

320.74 - 343.558 Host

until we come to the magma layers of molten rock, and through this, and these are dream roots, so they can pass through magma just as easily as they pass through rock, until they finally reach the white hot metal at the heart of the earth. Take a moment to rest here, connecting your heart to the heart of the earth.

0

345.277 - 372.297 Host

And then send roots out in a full 360 degree sphere, getting thinner as they go out from the core, through the magma layers, through the rock layers, through the subsoil, until what you have is a fine, fine meshwork of tiny rootlets just beneath the surface of the topsoil, so that you have a root ball connecting the whole of the earth through the heart of the earth to your heart.

0

374.268 - 402.891 Host

And then send a cord up from the crown of your head to the heights of the sky so that you are making the three-hearted connection. The heart of the earth through your heart to the heart mind of the universe and the heart mind of the universe through your heart to the heart of the earth. So that you are the clear, open connection linking the earth to the sky and the sky to the earth. And then

0

404.356 - 430.431 Host

Bring all of your attention to that edge place where the physicality of yourself meets the rest of the all that is. That place where your skin meets the air and the air meets your skin. Feel the press of your clothes. Feel the air on the uncovered places of your face, your hands, maybe your legs and your feet. If there's a breeze in the room, feel the movement. If the air is still,

431.17 - 451.891 Host

Feel the temperature as the rest of reality connects with the reality that is you. And then narrow your attention to that small patch of skin where the base of your nose meets your upper lip, so that when you breathe in through your nose, you can feel a really subtle shift in the air.

Chapter 6: How do we visualize our connection to the Earth and the universe?

453.293 - 502.429 Host

And when you breathe out again, you can feel the same, but warmer, Rest your attention lightly here for three full breath cycles, all the way in and all the way out. And then follow the next breath in, cold at the back of your pharynx and down into your lungs as your ribs move out and down and your diaphragm sinks.

0

503.83 - 530.537 Host

Bring your awareness down with the breath so that you feel yourself in the centre of your heart space. And make this an almost infinite space so that your sternum is an almost infinite distance in front and the vertebrae of your spine an almost infinite distance behind. Your ribs are way, way, way out to left and right. Your head is so high up you can barely see it.

0

532.098 - 538.524 Host

And your diaphragm, your abdomen, your pelvis, your hips, your legs, your feet are way, way, way down below.

0

540.967 - 551.577 Unknown

And you are here, held in the space of your own heart. How do you feel?

0

553.058 - 577.21 Host

What is the resting sensation in your heart space? What is the resting emotion? Let yourself sense this for a moment without judgment, simply gathering the understanding. And then, leaving our bodies grounded and boundaried and breathing,

579.08 - 609.053 Host

You and I are going to bring our dream bodies, our imaginal selves, out of the physicality that we leave behind, out of the room, out of the house, out of the neighbourhood, out of the nation, out of the continent and off the planet. We're going to move upwards through the layers of the atmosphere until we move beyond the gases that are held by the gravity of the earth and we move on out and up.

611.328 - 652.942 Host

We move past the Moon that is in alignment with the Sun. We move past the comet of 3I Atlas as it moves at 157,000 miles per hour past us. We move on out through our solar system, beyond the orbits of Mars, of Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Pluto, all the other asteroids. moving on and on, deeper into space, moving deeper and deeper until we reach an imaginal space where there are no stars.

Chapter 7: What emotions or sensations should we observe during meditation?

655.185 - 684.999 Host

There is only us, the void, and the heart-mind of the universe. And from this place, from the darkness of space, we look back at the blue pearl of our planet, at the beauty of the place that is our home. Because this is a dream, we can make it any scale we want. It can be a dot in the distance, or it can be wider than the span of our arms.

0

686.481 - 717.828 Host

Either way, we can see the whole of it, from side to side, from top to bottom, a sphere rotating gently, moving around the star that we call the sun. tilting from pole to pole to create the solstices and the equinoxes. And whether it is the long nights for you or the long days, what we are here to do for the moment is connect our heart to the heart of the Earth.

0

718.83 - 745.434 Host

We did this earlier, but now we have the vantage point of space, of distance. Not of being on the earth, but of seeing the earth. Depending on the scale, we could hold it cupped in our outstretched hands. And it is ours, and we are its. And I want you to take a moment to imagine the web of life around this earth.

0

746.515 - 782.916 Host

All of the fine, fine, fine filaments of light, sunlight or moonlight at your choice. that are crossing in an infinitely complex web all around the surface of the earth. And wherever these threads cross is a node of consciousness. Some of them are human. Many of them are not. But of those that are human, one is you. And I want you now to extend your heart connection from the perspective of space

0

783.841 - 813.561 Host

to the you that is at the crossing point of any number of filaments? How does it feel both to see the earth and to be connected to the part of you that is an integral part of the web of life? Let yourself settle into this feeling, this heart-to-heart connection, both the perspective of distance and the sense of being within the web, both at the same time.

815.937 - 1039.256 Host

I'm going to chime lightly and then we'll leave you for a few minutes and chime lightly again for you to come back to the sense of yourself that is enfolded in the heart-mind of the universe. So bring your awareness back to the dream body that exists enfolded in the heart-mind of the universe, looking down on the blue pearl rotating in space that is our planet.

1040.939 - 1063.267 Host

Still with the infinitely complex web of life wrapped all around it, knowing that any time two or more of those filaments cross, there is a node of consciousness. And some of them are so complex we couldn't begin to count the threads. and some of those nodes are human, and many of them are not, and one of them is you.

1065.39 - 1094.313 Host

Knowing also that you can come back to this place and time of contemplation anytime you want, I want you now to rest your attention on the alignment of the sun, the moon, and the earth, in that line going out from the sun, and of the tilt of the earth, If you're in the Northern Hemisphere, that pole is tilted furthest away from the Sun, but is beginning now to tilt back.

1095.475 - 1128.215 Host

If you're in the Southern Hemisphere, that pole is tilted closer to the Sun, but is beginning to tilt away. And the Moon, currently in alignment with the Sun, will continue her journey round. And we will continue our journey round the Sun. However you mark the solstice, take a moment now to feel that changeover. From long nights to shorter nights, or from long days to shorter days.

Chapter 8: How can we integrate the experience of the solstice into our daily lives?

1158.349 - 1192.188 Host

Into the realms of our solar system. Past the sun, past the moon. Moving into the atmosphere of the Earth. Moving down through the gas layers. moving back towards the continent where we started, towards the nation, the neighborhood, the house, the room, and the body that we left grounded and boundaried and breathing. Bring yourself back into the almost infinite space of your heart-mind.

0

1193.97 - 1211.118 Host

What is the feeling here now, the physical sensation and the emotional sensation? Are you the same as when you left? There is no judgment. Simply observe. Feel. Know who you are.

0

1215.242 - 1238.365 Host

And then follow the next breath out, cold at the back of your pharynx, and out through your nose, so that you can feel the subtle movement of air at that small patch of skin where the base of your nose meets your upper lip. And then extend your awareness outwards to that edge place where the air meets your skin and your skin meets the air.

0

1239.526 - 1261.543 Host

The boundary between the physicality of yourself and the rest of the all that is. Take a moment to feel the press of your clothes and the press of the air. And then extend your awareness inwards to the flesh and the bones and the teeth of the physicality of yourself. Feel your seat on the chair and your feet on the floor.

0

1263.045 - 1285.774 Host

Reaffirm the roots going down into the heart of the earth and see them connecting out to that full root ball that we made at the start. Reaffirm the connection going up from the crown of your head to the heights of the sky. We are always connected. Our heart to the heart mind of the universe. Our heart to the heart of the earth.

1287.172 - 1315.66 Host

We are the open and clear connection from the earth to the sky and the sky to the earth. And knowing this, knowing who you are, knowing that you exist at that crossing point of so many strands of the web, that you are a self-conscious node in the web of life. Roll your shoulders, move your fingers, move your toes.

1316.568 - 1329.109 Host

And very slowly and with a very soft gaze, open your eyes and look around the room to anchor yourself back in this time and this place.
