Who are the biggest AFL free agents heading into 2027?

If you've woken up right and early this morning, you would have seen on AFL.com.au the free agency list for 2027. Clubs are already doing work on this, uh, in terms of trying to retain, attract. Uh and just doing their due diligence. These are of course the pre agents this year, but they're the b the guys who are gonna hit free agency next year. We put this list together around trade period, twelve months in advance, every single season. And there's some interesting names among the nearly one hundred that will be on the free agency list next year. Of course, this is from the twenty eighteen drop twenty 2019, sorry, draft crops. So clearly the number one and two pick in that year. Matt Raoul and Noah Anderson among the most high profile that you would think.

Obviously we don't know the bannings yet, but they will be the biggest restricted for agents on the market heading into 2027. But then there's also Tom Green and Lockheash at the Giants. Chad Warner is clearly a big one at the Swans. Will Day at Hawthorne. And you've already reported this year that clubs have started turning their attentions to him, of course. I think Tom McCartan stands above many as well as uh a free agent, given he'll be an unrestricted free agent. Uh so that adds an extra element to the value that clubs will be able to place on him, knowing they won't have to go through the trade rigmarole that we're seeing at the moment with uh Zach Butters and that we'll undoubtedly see with Matt Rowell if he chose to exercise his free agency at the end of next year. Uh I I strongly expect that the the Zach Butters storyline uh will be a replacement of the Matt Row one for next year, th that the in that it's going to be the talking point of the whole year. And it's already started in in many ways. It's started Uh this time last year when he met with four clubs.

Miles Bergman is a free agent next year, so his Two year deal that he signed in the middle of twenty twenty five carried a player option of an extra seven year deal that he could sign at any point. Yep. Yeah. So that's remained then since and will carry into next year. So that's been there since uh the middle of last year and reported it. Yeah.

Yeah, and and and the same options were there available for Zach Butters as part of his option. It was I think a two and six deal. So it was about an eight year extension as part of that biggest deal offer, biggest ever deal that uh the the Port Adelaide footy club put towards Zach Butters at that point, worth more than fourteen million dollars. So that was there then and those player options were I mean th their handshake agreements they're non binding. They're non binding, but there's also an agreement that this is where it stands. If you have their their two year deal, we're immediately going to put forward an extra seven year extension offer there for you and it's going to stay there. And that's the same for Miles Bergman heading into next year.
