From elders passing down ghoema rhythms to young performers learning discipline, teamwork and pride, the Klopse continues to serve as a cultural fortress against erasure and commodification. Gambino stresses that the carnival is not entertainment for outsiders, but a living memorial to history, struggle and joy — and that its meaning must be protected.
