Send us a textCalifornia just made history. It has become the first US state to pass comprehensive safety laws around AI chatbots, particularly ones designed to be companions, advisers, or friends. The law is called Senate Bill 243, and Governor Gavin Newsom signed it in October 2025. It comes into effect January 1st, 2026.
