I've been testing it out with a silly personal quest, trying to identify a childhood PC game from scattered memories, and it finally cracked it (Virus 2000, if you're curious). But beyond my trivial victories, the benchmarks are genuinely impressive. It's dominating the ARC-AGI-2 leaderboard, forcing them to literally extend the scale because previous models are now squished into irrelevance at the bottom. What's really wild though is the cost efficiency: a task that cost $4,500 to run a year ago with their O3 model now costs $11.64 with 5.2, and it gets better results. That's a 400x reduction in twelve months, which is the kind of exponential progress people miss when they're busy saying "AI can't do X." The other massive news is Disney investing $1 billion into OpenAI with a proper intertwined deal. It's not just money - it's a three-year licensing agreement letting Sora generate videos with Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars characters that'll stream on Disney Plus. Disney's also becoming a major OpenAI customer, deploying ChatGPT across their business and building new tools with their APIs. The timing's a bit odd since Sora development is paused for eight weeks, but the commercial and legal implications are fascinating. This feels like battle lines being drawn, especially with Netflix eyeing Warner Brothers (and therefore DC) for what looks like their own AI play.
